Newtown Book & Record Exchange has been a State Street staple since 1981 and we hope to continue serving you for many more years to come. We have thousands of used books, plus new & used vinyl, cassettes, DVDs, and CDs. We can also special order music for you from our distributor at no extra cost.
Trades welcome! We’re always looking for gently used paperback books (no hardcovers except for kids’ picture books and current bestsellers) and LPs in good condition.
BOOKS: We’re mainly interested in current titles from the past 2 years in various genres. We do not take books on consignment or give cash for books. We sell books for half the original US list price and the credit exchange is 20% of the original US list price unless our selling price needs to be altered. Example: a $10 book will get you $2 in credit and then we will sell that book for $5. Example 2: a used $18 book might not be able to sell for $9, so our selling price is marked down to $7.50. This would assume an “original price” of $15 and your credit would then be $3 (20% of 15). Any books we cannot accept must be taken back with you. The book exchange is for credit to be used on books in the store ONLY. We do not give cash for books.
VINYL: At the moment we are only looking for classic rock, funk, soul, reggae, hip hop, metal, new wave, or late 50's to early 70's jazz in the vein of Miles Davis/John Coltrane/Thelonius Monk/Bill Evans. We are not interested in big band, classical, old show tunes, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, “easy listening” etc.
You do not need an appointment, but if it's a large collection you will have to leave it at the store for a few days to be evaluated. We are only taking 33s in good condition in their original covers - no 78s or 45s, CDs, VHS, DVDs, or cassettes. For vinyl accepted you will receive a store credit. We can also offer cash but it is less than the amount you would receive in store credit.
